BB-INT010-t1Interviewer

Tell me about your typical BorderBlend visit.

I work downtown. There's a truck that parks near my office building on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I go when I remember it's there and I'm not doing anything for lunch. I get two tacos — usually the brisket and the chicken — and go back to work. Probably takes ten minutes from leaving my desk to getting back.

BB-INT010-t3Interviewer

What keeps you going back rather than somewhere else?

It's quick, it's decent, it's reasonably priced for lunch downtown. That's it. I'm not overthinking it. A lot of lunch options in this area are either fast food that's not great or sit-down places where you're waiting thirty minutes and paying twenty-five dollars for a sandwich. This is in the middle.

BB-INT010-t5Interviewer

Have the prices changed since you started going?

They went up a bit last year. I noticed. I didn't stop going but if they went up again significantly I'd probably reconsider. I have a number in my head — above a certain price point for two tacos, I'd start looking for alternatives.

BB-INT010-t7Interviewer

You don't follow them on social media — what makes you decide to visit if not from seeing their content?

I know the schedule. The truck is in the same spot on the same days. I don't need social media for that. If I need to know whether they're there on a day they don't usually come, I might look it up. But mostly I just know the pattern.

BB-INT010-t9Interviewer

Have you ever used the app?

[pause] I downloaded it, yeah. I think I was going to order ahead at some point but then the line wasn't that long anyway and I didn't bother. Haven't opened it since.

BB-INT010-t11Interviewer

What would make you use the app?

If it saved me time. If I could order while I was still in the building, walk over, and pick up without waiting. That I'd use. But the last time I checked, the app didn't seem to offer pickup ahead of time in a way that worked reliably. Someone in my office tried it and said the wait time was wrong.

BB-INT010-t13Interviewer

Is there anything about the brand that you particularly value?

The food is consistent. I know what I'm getting every time. I've never had a bad one. There's no surprise in a bad direction. For a quick lunch choice, that's the main thing. I don't want to experiment with lunch when I have thirty minutes. I want to know what I'm getting.

BB-INT010-t15Interviewer

Is there anything you'd change?

The inconsistency of knowing when the truck is there. I said I know the schedule, but it's not perfectly reliable. Sometimes the truck isn't there on a Tuesday and I've already planned to go. That's annoying. It makes me more likely to just pick something else than plan around the truck. If there was a reliable way to check whether the truck is running today, without having to follow an Instagram or download an app, that'd be useful.

BB-INT010-t17Interviewer

What would that look like?

Just — a phone number, or a website that shows today's locations and hours and whether you're open. Basic. Some food trucks have an app, some have a website, some just have Instagram. If I have to follow a social media account just to know if you're open, that's too much friction for what I'm getting. I'd go somewhere else.

BB-INT010-t19Interviewer

Any last thoughts?

No. It's a good lunch. I'll keep going as long as the price is right.

BB-INT010-t21Interviewer

Short and clear. Thanks for your time.

Post-interview notes

Deliberately concise interview — participant is low-engagement with the brand, and the interview reflects that. Key insights are in what he doesn't value: no social media, no loyalty programme, no brand story engagement. His criteria are strictly utilitarian: proximity, price, speed, consistency. Price threshold is explicitly mentioned but not quantified — the "number in my head" is a real churn signal. Schedule reliability as a discovery/access issue is specific: he knows the pattern but it breaks down; Instagram or app require too much friction for his needs. The "phone number or basic website showing today's locations" solution is so minimal it underscores how low the bar is for this consumer type. Compare with Priya Sharma (BB-INT008) who also flagged the app's live truck status gap — same problem from two very different consumer profiles, strengthening the signal. Contrast with social-first consumers (Jasmine, Priya, Lena): he is not the target of any current brand marketing effort, but he represents a real and recurring revenue segment.
